Beautiful Bakewell!

To celebrate the launch of our amazing Bakewell cottages let’s shine a light on our namesake town! Nestled on the River Wye and dating back to Anglo Saxon times Bakewell is the true gem of the Peak District. Famous for It’s Monday market, Agricultural Centre and of course Bakewell Tarts, Bakewell has made a name for itself as one of the UK’s most popular tourist destinations. See our pick of the Best of Bakewell below!

Try a Bakewell tart or pudding!

Are you a tart or pudding kind of person?! Why not have both! With a host of Bakeries all stocking Bakewell's finest you will be spoilt for choice. Here are our favourite places to indulge!

Tour a brewery

The Thornbridge story began in 2005 when the founders Jim and Simon recruited two young brewers to brew on a second hand 10 barrel kit on the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. With demand for the incredible beer at an all time high they relocated to state of the art premises in Bakewell where you can tour the brewery and sample the yummy ale!

Explore the history of Bakewell

Set in the heart of the beautiful Peak District, the Old House Museum is a Tudor dwelling. After nearly five hundred years of continuous use, the house was rescued from demolition in the 1950s. An award winning museum, it now plays host to a wide range of artefacts telling the story of the Peak District and beyond.

Hire a bike on the Monsal Trail

The iconic Monsal Trail provides 8.5 miles of glorious, traffic free cycling and is suitable for the whole family. You can access the Monsal Trail just off Coombs Road in Bakewell which is next to our brand new Bakewell holiday cottages. You can hire Bikes in nearby Hassop if you don't have your own.

Take a stroll along the River Wye

The River Wye is a Limestone river which flows through Bakewell, providing wonderful, dog and family friendly walks. Here is one of our favourites!

Visit the Monday Market

Bakewell has had a market since 1300 and is still one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Peak District, boasting over 100 stalls. Ranging from fruit and veg to clothing and street food. There is something for everyone!
